DRM encourages piracy

Digital rights managment (or DRM) is meant to reduce piracy.
It fails in doing that, it only encourages piracy because pirated versions of media are often a better experience.

DRM software for videogames like Denuvo often slow down peformance or requires you to be always online (which is bad especially if you own a handheld PC gaming device like the Steam Deck).

Pirated versions doesn't suffer from any of these issues, which gives the people who pirate a better experience than the people that pay.

No matter what digital medium, the people that pay get a worse experience.

"Piracy is almost always a service problem and not a pricing problem." - Gabe Newell, the president of Valve.
